Personal Counselling
I offer face to face counselling in Adelaide , South Australia , where I live. I am available at flexible times, during the day or evening. Sessions are of one hour (unless there is a prior arrangement) and the cost is $AUS75- per session. My style of counselling is integrated; that is I have been trained primarily in the Egan style of empathic listening, but have also received training in a number of other areas. My one sentence summary is: “You set the agenda, I guide the process.” Family and systems theory, emotions, gestalt, and body focus therapy are areas of interest I have, but I have a working knowledge of most theories and therapies (having taught most of them for over 5 years). As the need arises I will select ideas and activities from any therapy that may be useful.
I have had experience in a wide range of areas including: adolescents, children, marriage, anger, pre-marital, stress, communication skills, grief, sexual issues and self-esteem. I particularly enjoy working with people who want to explore who they are and their identity as a whole person, and with those who have depression, but do not wish to be on anti-depressants. I am a Christian, but work with both non-Christians and Christians, which ties in with my philosophy.
Counselling Philosophy and Aims
1. I believe each person is a unique individual who has worth and value in the eyes of God;
2. I aim to help each person recognise their own worth and value, and to affirm and respect other people’s identity;
3. I aim to listen to each person’s story;
4. I believe there is not necessarily one solution, but that each person’s situation requires individual consideration and exploration of possibilities;
5. With the client I hope to explore resources, and suggest reflection and activities that are appropriate.
